Hello Lower Devo Families and Friends,
We hope this finds you well and having had a chance to get outside this weekend and play together. We wanted to share a few reminders with you as we near the one month mark until the end of the school year.
Parking/Stopping on Webster Street:
As a friendly reminder there is no parking or stopping on Webster Street between 7:45 - 8:15a and 2:15 - 2:45p. If you need to drive to 30 Webster Street and would like to drop off without parking please use the rolling drop off on Marion Street which is open from 7:45a - 8:05a. If you would like to access the rolling pick up on Marion Street please be sure to fill out the Rolling Pick Up form and stay in your vehicle on Marion Street while you wait for your student to arrive. Parking on Marion Street around our building is reserved for live pick up only. We have had several neighbors share reports of vehicles blocking driveways and being left double parked in the road. Please help keep our students safe and maintain a positive relationship with our neighbors by following the guidelines for rolling pick up.
Arrival/Dismissal Safe Walking Procedures:
Please use the crosswalks when arriving to school and leaving at the end of the day. Increased traffic, parked cars, and busses make for complex travel. In order to keep you and your child safe it is best to cross with the crossing guard on Webster Street rather in front of the driveway. Crossing at the crosswalk also helps reinforce safe street crossing behavior with our youngest students and prepares them for safe independent walking as they get older.
Transition to Upper Devo/Building Project Updates:
Please join us this Monday (May 22nd) from 6:00 - 7:00p in the Lower Devo multipurpose room. Monica Crowley and Saeed Ola (Upper Devo Principal and Vice Principal) will be presenting important information on the transition to Upper Devo for our 4th graders. Additionally our architect team from HMFH Architects will present updates on the project including elevation drawings and an updated timeline.
Join with families from across all grade levels to celebrate the rich diversity that makes the tapestry of our community so vibrant and beautiful. Stop by the Coolidge Park from 5:30 - 7:30 this Thursday (5/25) to share in community and sample some delicious treats.
Monday May 22nd the annual Devotion School food drive for the Brookline Food Pantry begins. The drive will run through June 2nd and all are invited to help walk the items collected to the food Pantry at 1:40p on Friday 6/2. For more information please see the Devo Can Flyer or contact Lisa Ting (email@example.com), Alissa Dubois-Banitt (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Abby Cox (email@example.com)
Big Book Bazaar:
The Big Book Bazaar is coming to Lower Devo! We hope families will join us for the evening event on June 1st at 6:00p on the 5th Floor of Lower Devo. Don't forget to pick up some great new and used books at the bazaar so you can share your #DevoReads photos with us all summer long!
Warm Weather Wear:
As the weather is turning hotter please send your child(ren) to school dressed in layers. The playground (both the blacktop and Griggs Park) can get very hot but our classrooms are quite cool with the air conditioning units. Also, if possible, please send your child to school with a water bottle that can be refilled throughout the day so we can help make sure each student is properly hydrated in the heat. Lastly, as classes spend extra time outside in the sun it is always a good idea to send your child(ren) to school with their sunscreen already applied. If you would like them to reapply please send them with their own sunscreen and some practice on how to put it on themselves.
It's a busy time of year and we want to make sure you don't miss a single event. Please check our Devotion School Community Calendar for our upcoming Spring Outdoor Concert Series dates and other class specific celebrations and events. As always if you have any questions or feedback please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
